Thoughts of the Day

Who we are, is not what we say or do and it surely is not what we have. We are who we are within, not what surrounds us. We are not a possession, and cannot be possessed. In Maltese language, we have two little words, very similar to one another, but encompass the two halves; ma' (with) and ta' (of) - and when we conjugate these two tiny words with jien (me), they become; miegħi (with me) and tiegħi (mine). Being so similar to one another, we tend to misplace them.

In my surreal ideal world, I would place miegħi (with me) in front of the living, and precede  tiegħi (mine) with the non-living. This is because I do not like the idea of possessing the living, and more than that, I do not like the idea of being possessed. So I live with the world, but no I do not belong to the world and the world surely does not belong to me. I find complete logic in the philosophy of freedom where taking full responsibility gives in return full credit.

With this constant fight between  tiegħi and miegħi, the world has fought its history; nations, politics, religions, power, money. One against one, few against plenty.  Humanity has written its history on how humanity perceived history and that is in linear wavelengths. But the Universe, the world and nature itself, they cannot be defined with what humans perceive. It is like defining the ocean from the knowledge of a jelly-fish.

I believe in a theory which I call - The Theory of the Spheres. I thought about this while writing an essay about AI (Artificial Intelligence.) What is built by humans, is built in linear. Therefore,  even if an
incredible amount of teamwork such as all the data inputted online, is placed in one man-made AI machine - this can never take place the role of the human, or any other living creature. AI is not good or bad but simply different.

On the contrary, my Theory of the Spheres shows how everything that is natural is designed on spheres; time, worlds, atoms, cells, concepts to mention a few. We are all looping in spheres, not circles, not lines. Life is not polar, but spherical. As a water droplet evaporates to a condensed state to bring another water droplet, that is how we loop, day to day, life to life.

In this greatness of perfect balance and infinite possibilities, I find the everyday media topics not only irrelevant but immensely suffocating. In my current experience in teaching language, a student mentioned that even if the Romans conquered the land of the Greek, they never managed to conquer their mentality. It made me think that in this categorical methodological structured world that the old Greek created, there is one thing in which I still find sense which is true to nature. This one thing that society, power and money use and abuse, it cannot ever be destroyed because it is in itself a sphere on its own. Charles Horton Cooley has undoubtedly said it right when he stated; 'An artist cannot fail - it is a success to be one.' Art, therefore, is not tiegħi but miegħi.
